Once back out of the water, Sofao doubles up as a comfortable recliner to lie down and dry off in the sun, thanks to its foldaway armrests and reclining backrest.

Hippocampe pool and outdoor wheelchair

Swimming is the sporting discipline most practiced by handicapped individuals since it allows most people (from the slightly handicapped to the most heavily handicapped) to use their motor abilities in a weightless situation.Unfortunately, it is rare to find pools equipped with one or more wheelchairs providing access to the dressing room, showers, footbath, and access to a pool with a ramp or small steps to avoid the problems related to using a standard wheel chair in humid areas and preventing multiple transfers from a wheelchair to an often poorly adapted plastic chair.
You can move freely about the pool without using your standard wheelchair or getting it wet and, avoiding hygiene problems related to having outside wheelchairs near pools

Parts and extras

We have wide range of products that can be replaced at any time (seats, shock absorbers, lift harness, assistance bars, leg covers and other parts).

I met Dominik on my first trip to Austria with the British Disabled Ski Team. He really helped build my confidence, my skiing improved considerably through the week. He was patient, calm, and made the learning process so much fun! We worked hard at off-snow complementary training, with additional physio & massage to ensure my disability didn’t affect skiing performance. Would highly recommend him!

We are both single leg amputees, I am below knee, and my husband is above knee.  We had never skied before, and both wanted to ski wearing our prostheses.  Dom was determined to help us achieve this and with a lot of patience, understanding and encouragement he succeeded! It’s great to be able to share a sport with our kids, and we have had two amazing family skiing holidays and are looking forward to our third. We would recommend Active Therapy to anyone, as we know Dom will endeavor to help you achieve your goal.

We had tried for a couple of years to get my eldest daughter to ski, in desperation despite no recognised disability I contacted Disability Ski. We met up with Dom at the Chill Factore who, rather than putting her straight on skis chatted and looked at her posture, within the first few minutes he’d established a problem with the muscles in her legs. They went out onto the snow, Cerys was not very enthusiastic, she had previously hated skiing and was ready to accept that she would just never do it. Straight away Dom recognised that she was not going to make it easy for him and he humoured her up the lifts, by the end of the first lesson they were skiing together in a basic snowplough. We had about 6 lessons and by that time she had built up enough confidence to slowly traverse down the slope but the highlight was seeing her enjoy it and even laughing if she fell. Dom has a fantastic manner with children, he has great fun with them but completely understands them and stays in charge of the lesson.

Fortunately for us we had booked a holiday to Morzine which is where Dom was due to spend the winter. As we’d had such a bad experience in ski school previously Cerys didn’t want to go back in so Dom agreed to come over and give her some lessons. The challenge was to complete the green run back to the hotel by the end of the week. She exceeded this by skiing the blue run down to village! Her face at the bottom of the run is one which I will never forget, she was so proud of herself. This was not just about skiing it was a matter of self-confidence, which only came with Dom’s support. It was a fantastic holiday that was made by the fact that both of my children enjoyed the skiing.

Dom also skied with other members of a party from all abilities and everyone came back feeling that they’d really improved. I would most definitely recommend Dom, he will push you to improve but you also have great fun. All the children still talk about him the only problem is none of them want to go back to ski school they all want lessons with Dom!!

We first met Dominik at the Rossendale dry slope where our son Isaac made his first tentative moves on skis. My husband and I love skiing and really wanted our children to be able to ski with us. However, Isaac has physical difficulties with coordination, poor muscle tone and hypermobility in combination with difficulty in concentration. It seemed unlikely that Isaac would progress enough for us all to ski together. However, after Rossendale Isaac moved to Xcape (indoor snow slope) and with Dominik’s skilled teaching and patience, he has progressed way beyond our expectations. Dominik left us to go to Morzine last year and Isaac still asks when we can see him again. This year our family plan to visit St. Anton and Isaac and Yolande are so excited to be skiing with Dominik again.

Dominik Jonas has worked with Oakwood High School several times providing excellent ski tuition abroad and in England. Dominik arranged for our pupils to visit Prague, Czech and South West Poland introducing the group to well organised activities, booking excellent accommodation and ensuring all the group had a great time. Oakwood High school is for pupils with complex learning difficulties and would highly recommend Dominik.

About me

Just a few words about myself: my name is Dominik Jonas, known as Dom. I have always been active in various sport disciplines – the more the better. While I studied at university I got involved in sport a lot. I completed my degree in Physiotherapy and continued to study for my Master’s degree. Whilst at university I achieved my instructor qualifications in sport. I worked at hospitals and physio clinics, in fitness clubs as a personal trainer and was teaching skiing during winters. With years of experience and knowledge under my belt I decided to work with people wanting to make positive changes in their life and help in achieving their goals. In 2004 I started working for Disability Snowsport UK where I was responsible for various projects involving disabled people, schools and youth organisations across the UK and Europe. I have helped in coaching British Disabled Ski Team and in 2007 for my work I received a Positive Action Award for making changes in disabled people’s lives in the North West of England. I have organised successful overseas activity holidays for special needs children with plenty of attractions and interesting sightseeing programmes. Through all this time I have developed my fitness and physio skills and completed extra massage and modern treatments courses.

After years of experience in the travel, fitness and Physiotherapy business I have decided to match all these elements together and create the Active Therapy – a special individual service to make your holiday active and relaxing at the same time so you can make the most of it. I am hoping to transfer my passion for outdoor activities into your life so you can explore it more. I am offering a wide range of professional services for people of all ages, disabled as well as fully able – including adaptive ski instructing, ski instructing, guiding, ski touring, mobile physio and massage treatments, active holidays with vast fitness, spa and sightseeing programme.

Active Therapy offers affordable, personalized, active holidays for people any age and all abilities. Our aim is to provide the best quality service, stress free and enjoyable time whilst away.

We operate all year round in Zakopane, Poland (Tatras Mountains). We have an adaptive ski program over the winter and sightseeing, biking, tennis, hiking, rafting, sailing from April all the way till December.

Physio and massage

massage3 massage2 massage1

We offer a wide range of mobile/ in house treatments to choose from in the Manchester and Cheshire area. My various massage treatments (Swedish Massage, Sports Massage, Remedial Massage and Hot Stone Massage) will regenerate your aching muscles, relax your body and mind, and all this without having you to leave your home! My service will save you precious time so you are able to continue with your daily routine! I am friendly, flexible, and I have essential training backed up with plenty of experience.

Feet & Calves Massage – improves circulation, relives tension and fatigue from aching calves, feet and ankles getting you ready for another exciting day on skis.

Hot Stone Massage uses special smooth, heated stones – basalt volcanic rock that absorbs and retains heat. The heat is deeply relaxing and helps tight muscles release.

Swedish Massage (classic massage) relieves muscle tension and pain, decreases stress, increases blood circulation as well as mental and physical relaxation.

Remedial Massage is a holistic treatment and involves the use of massage and a wide range of diagnostic techniques to treat a condition. Remedial massage can be helpful in treating specific areas of muscle tension caused by stress or injury. The therapy also helps to get the blood flowing to injured tissues to speed up the repair process. Remedial massage can also be used for relaxation and general well-being.

Sports Massage is a special form of massage and is typically used before, during, and after athletic events. The purpose of the massage is to prepare the athlete for peak performance, to drain away fatigue, to relieve swelling, to reduce muscle tension, to promote flexibility and to prevent injuries.

If you have any further queries or questions relating to which massage would best suit you please do not hesitate to contact me:
